Our name seems to spark some curiosity about how we came about it. Empty Mind Studio represents as much an approach as it does a philosophy. My first awareness of Bruce Lee gave him nearly mythic proportions. Many years later I learned a great deal more about lee and his life, he was a remarkable figure. Did you know that one of his legs was significantly shorter than the other? So much so, that he had little chance of ever achieving the ability that he did in the martial arts. The name of our studio was inspired by, Zen and Taoist ideologies as well as Lee’s applications of these ancient ideals. Books can and have been filled about these subjects. The part that we apply is the idea of emptying our mind. This means trying to put aside any preconceived ideas we might have about people and their music. After all, the well tattooed rocker and the rapper that pulls up with the mad spinners are both choosing different avenues to get to the same goal, expression of their music. It is our goal to help by not using our idea of what music should be, but rather your vision of what your music should be. Using the latest technology to apply this approach to our craft sets us apart from other studios in our price range. Ok, so who are you? My name is Tyler; I have been at this in one shape, form or another since the mid to late 70’s. I am an accomplished musician who can play just about any instrument a little and some more fluently. I have played and recorded with and for several bands over the years which also gives me a musicians perspective on recording and live sound, not just a technical view. This may account for the reason why I place so much emphasis on our headphone system, here at E.M.S. we offer a state of the art headphone system. I bought my first P.A. in 1981 and have been doing live sound ever since. In 1987 I got a call to run someone else’s “rig” and have since worked as an artist engineer. I also bought my first recorder in 1981 (an Akai reel to reel). Since that time I have had the opportunity to work some really great people (and some real assholes too), I have kept a list over the years and have put it HERE if you are interested, presuming you have read this far, you probably are. Three years ago we opened the doors as Empty Mind Studio, We are a full time studio that is branching out into other areas of the music industry. We are part of Legend Valley Records, which is working to bridge the gap the way music is sold shared and experienced as the market is changing. We are always looking for like-minded people to join our team. If you have something to contribute, or seek further information, please feel free to contact us. |
